We pride ourselves on our innovative recipes and product designs. While four or six inch cakes and pies, cookies, and brownies are our traditional market offerings, we are more than happy to work with you to design the perfect centerpiece dessert for your next event.
The Demestia Baking Company was officially incorporated in May of 2014, but started to materialize much earlier. We began with a simple idea: to be better than anything you've ever tasted before. Holding fast to Thomas Edison's dictum that "genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration," we tirelessly work to perfect new and exciting recipes that will stimulate both your eyes and taste buds. Our location between Philadelphia and Lancaster, Pennsylvania affords us the unique opportunity to utilize both new world and old world recipes and ingredients.
What's in a Name?
"Demestia" is a portmanteau of two Greek Goddesses: Demeter and Hestia. Demeter is the goddess of the harvest, grains, seasons, and agriculture. Hestia is the goddess of the hearth and domesticity. When you combine the powers of these two goddesses, you have the tenets on which Demestia Baking Company stands: rich, delicious desserts that make the most of what the earth has to offer.
The Woman behind the Brand
Demestia Baking Company was created by Julia Dischell. Although the company was not officially incorporated until 2014, Julia has been "force-feeding" friends and family since childhood. She would often bring treats to school and work in order to test out her ideas. After making a birthday cake out of a box for her high school boyfriend and best friend, she promised herself that was going to be the last time she did not make something from scratch, and has never looked back.
